Unique Reverse Cutting Board and Mincing Bowl

It has been sometime since we had a good chat!  I was just looking over some of our older posts and went back to check out some previously suggested items.  One site in particular that has really come a long way since my first visit is Woodcraft By G. Besides the new items available, they have some interesting blog articles.  One in particular is about wood versus bamboo.  Live and learn!

I found this really great item that is a cutting board with a juice well on one side and a mincing bowl on the other.  What a great find!  I haven't seen anything like this in the market.  So, I purchased one and gave it a try.

This unique board has become my "go to" favorite!  It's the perfect size when I'm chopping veggies for our dinner salad, and if I flip it over, the mincing bowl is perfect for chopping the fresh herbs I like to add.  With the Rocker Knife which was included with the board (also called an Ula or Mezzaluna knife), I can mince the herbs without causing any of the leaves (like basil) to turn brown.  Because of the curved blade, the Rocker Knife works perfectly with the wooden bowl.  Love that!

This board isn't finished with the salad bowl finish, but has been left more natural and comes oiled with mineral oil which is very easy to maintain.  I simply chop away and afterwards wipe it down with a little soapy water, dry and put away.  The instructions mention that an occasional oiling with mineral will keep the wood in top shape.

Looking for items Made in the USA? We Just Found This Site WBG!

With all of the crappy stuff coming out of China these days, my friends and I have started looking more and more for items from merchants that are made right here in the good old U.S.A.  We try to shop with our local merchants as often as possible, but sometimes you have to look farther away.

While visiting my friend, Kathy, at home recently, I was thoroughly impressed when she served lovely cheese, wine and appetizers on a beautiful cutting board.  We were able to cut our own cheese slices on the matching cheese slicer she had right next to it.  When I inquired where she found such beautiful treasures, she mentioned that she had been to one of the outside festivals while visiting in North Carolina and found this wood crafter who made the cutting boards, chopping blocks, cheese slicers and more.

I was thrilled when Kathy told me she had their website address available, so I could just go on line and find something for myself.  I discovered that these wood products are all hand crafted right here in America, specifically in North Carolina, one at a time so they are all a little different.  I am sharing this website with you today.  Woodcraft by G 

I am not easily impressed, but the quality of Kathy's items  was really nice.  Beautiful solid wood boards and finished with very nice touches like the cut-away handles on the bottom!  I have never seen that before, but it really makes it so much easier to lift up the board.  I noticed that the cheese slicer had a cutting arm that was a lot sturdier than the ones found in some of the big box stores with a much nicer cutting wire.  It looked like it would last a very, very long time.

This large board is one of my favorites and I'm ordering it today!
